Refer a Child for Treatment

At Gift of Life International – Jordan, we are dedicated to helping children with congenital heart defects. If you suspect that your child has a heart condition, we encourage you to contact a local pediatric cardiologist for evaluation and diagnosis.

Every year, we receive hundreds of requests from parents, doctors, and humanitarian organizations. To ensure we can fairly evaluate and assist children who meet our criteria, we follow a specific protocol.

Referral Guidelines

1- Child’s Age: 18 years or younger.

2- Medical Diagnosis: A detailed report of the child’s cardiac condition from a pediatric cardiologist.

3- Comprehensive Medical Report: A letter from the pediatric cardiologist including:

  • Complete medical history.
  • Height and weight.
  • Previous surgeries.
  • Any non-cardiac conditions.
  • Family history of congenital heart defects.
  • Vital signs and oxygen saturation levels.
  • Recommendations from the pediatric cardiologist.

4- Echocardiogram Recording: A DVD of the echocardiogram in NTSC, MP4, VOP, or JPEG format (printed images are not accepted).

5- Chest X-ray and ECG Reports: Copies or reports of chest X-rays and electrocardiograms.

6- Additional Tests: Copies or reports of tests such as MRI or CT scans, if available.

7- Blood Tests: Results for HIV, Hepatitis B, and Tuberculosis.

8- Recent Documentation: All requested materials must be dated within three months of the application submission.

Eligibility

We provide assistance to children diagnosed with one of the following congenital heart defects:

  • Patent Ductus Arteriosus.

  • Coarctation of the Aorta.

  • Atrial Septal Defect.

  • Ventricular Septal Defect.

  • Atrio-Ventricular Septal Defect (AV Canal).

  • Tetralogy of Fallot.

  • Total or Partial Anomalous Pulmonary Venous Connection.

  • Pulmonary Stenosis.

  • Aortic Stenosis.

Notes

This protocol has been developed based on current cases, as some hospitals limit the types of conditions, they are willing to accept for treatment. We aim to manage expectations and provide fair evaluations for each request.

It is preferable that a medical and family or community support network exists in the child’s home country to ensure follow-up care after treatment.

How We Help

The case will be evaluated by our Pediatric Cardiologist. If the child lives in Jordan and meets our criteria, Gift of Life International – Jordan will contact the family to set a diagnostic appointment in the clinic. Later, the case will be studied with the international surgical team for a future surgery, if needed.

If the child lives abroad, the case will be evaluated by the physicians and surgeons. If the child meets the criteria, Gift of Life International – Jordan will contact the family to arrange the logistics needed for travels; in some cases, airfare is donated, while in others, families may need to cover the cost.

Our goal is to provide the fairest evaluation process and ensure that children receive the best possible care, while offering families realistic expectations about the process.
